Collaboration

We offer you different forms of collaboration. Whether you need consulting, want to realize a project, or wish to use our laboratory infrastructure – get in touch with us. We will be happy to show you the various possibilities.

Our focus is on applied research and development in the fields of sensors, actuators, embedded systems, and microelectronics. To help advance your business, we connect you with our experts and develop the technology together with you. We can address your specific challenges and tackle the issues unique to your company. With our wide range of development and software tools, we are well-equipped to meet diverse needs.

In addition to research, we also handle design and prototype development. What sets us apart is our ability to be a reliable partner from the initial idea to the functional prototype.

Realization and financing

We essentially distinguish three categories of collaboration with our industrial partners: student projects, funded projects, and directly funded projects.

Realization

Our clients—whether SMEs, startups, or large corporations—approach us with a variety of challenges. Depending on the specific needs, we offer different implementation approaches:

  • Study, Bachelor, or Master Theses: Certain topics are well-suited for student projects at different academic levels. We connect our industry partners with a team of students who tackle the problem independently. It is important to note that these projects are carried out exclusively by students, not IMES staff.
  • Funded Projects: For projects with a strong research component or a high level of innovation, funding can be obtained.
  • Direct Collaboration: Clients approach us with specific challenges, and we work closely with them to develop efficient and cost-effective solutions—typically resulting in a prototype.
  • Design Work and Consulting: We support clients as service providers, offering expertise in design and consulting.

Financing

The financing model depends on the type of collaboration:

  • Study, Bachelor, or Master Theses are usually free of charge for industry partners, except for a small administrative fee.
  • Funded Projects are typically supported by organizations such as Innosuisse or the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
  • Direct Collaboration is fully funded by the industry partner.

Innosuisse (formerly KTI): Swiss Innovation Promotion Agency

Innosuisse is the federal agency for innovation promotion in Switzerland. It facilitates knowledge and technology transfer between companies and universities to maximize market impact.

Upon successful application, Innosuisse provides financial support, covering part of the working hours contributed by the university. The application process typically takes several weeks.
