The Institute for Microelectronics, Embedded Systems, and Sensorics (IMES) was established as part of the national funding program «MICROSWISS.» The initiative aimed to promote the technological advancement of SMEs and ensure Switzerland’s technological competitiveness. To achieve this, so-called MICROSWISS centers were created. The «MICROSWISS Center Rapperswil» was founded in 1992 at the former University of Applied Sciences Rapperswil (HSR). In 2000, it was renamed the «Institute for Microelectronics.» In 2002, it was expanded with the addition of the Embedded Systems group. Since the establishment of the OST – Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences, the institute has been part of OST since 2020.
Since 1992, IMES has completed more than 100 industry projects for a variety of clients. Throughout its history, IMES has made significant contributions to the advancement of microelectronics and embedded systems. In addition to several awards, numerous scientific publications, which have been published and discussed in the world’s most renowned journals, are a testament to its achievements.
