HSRvote: FAQS
Hardware
What is the maximum distance between the transmitter and receiver?
For the application to function properly, the distance between the transmitter and receiver must not be greater than 50 metres.
What frequency does the transmitter transmit on?
The transmitter transmits on the frequency of 2.4GHz.
Is the data transmitted from the sender to the recipient encrypted?
No, at present the data is not transmitted from the sender to the receiver in encrypted form. However, this is conceivable in the next generation of hardware.
How big and how heavy is the HSRvote battery free transmitter?
The HSRvote transmitter is approx. 112 mm wide and 70 mm high. The weight is 62 grams. The previous version, HSRvote classic, is 95 mm high and 55 mm wide. The weight is 29 grams.
Software
What is the maximum number of devices that can be used?
A maximum of 60 devices can be used simultaneously with the HSRvote application. However, conference mode can be activated under Options. Instead of displaying a separate icon for each device, the participants are counted up. This makes it possible to use 180 devices at the same time.
Is it possible to operate the HSRvote application without being directly at the PC?
Yes, there are two options. Either you use a presenter or you use one of the HSRvote transmitters as a master device (see tutorial→Make settings).
What are the system requirements?
Windows 7 and Windows 10 are supported, as well as Mac OSX
Are admin rights required for the installation?
Yes, admin rights are required to install the HSRvote application.
Is it possible to use pictures in the quiz?
Yes, this option has been added in the latest version. It is possible to use pictures in the question field as well as in the answer fields.
How do I copy a quiz file with pictures to another computer without complications?
It is best to create a new folder before taking the quiz. This should contain the quiz file (.xml file) and the pictures. This way you can move the quiz (with the whole folder) and open it on other computers, e.g. via USB stick.
Can I enter a complicated mathematical equation directly in the question editor?
No, this is not possible directly. The easiest way is to create the equation with another programme, e.g. LaTeX or OpenOffice Math, take a screenshot (e.g. with Snipping Tool, Windows 7 or newer) and insert it into the quiz as an image.
Can the results of a quiz be saved?
Yes, the results of a quiz or the evaluation of a survey can be exported as a PDF file or as a .csv file.
Can the questions be displayed automatically?
Yes, the quiz/survey questions can be displayed automatically. After each question, a predefined time is waited until the next question appears automatically.
Can several HSRvote cases be used at the same time?
To ensure that two HSRvote cases in neighbouring classrooms, for example, do not interfere with each other, each case has its own class set ID. Your own class set ID can be entered in the HSRvote software. This prevents ‘external’ transmitters from interfering with your own receiver.
Where can I find the operating instructions for the software?
The operating instructions for the software are installed directly with the software. You can find the operating instructions under Help in the menu bar. The tutorial is ideal for familiarising yourself with the most important functions of the HSRvote software.
