Smart mobile manipulator - flexible and simple automation

The ILT has developed a smart, mobile manipulator platform that offers an optimal solution for diverse, flexible automation tasks. The requirements for the development were to offer the widest possible range of applications and an easily expandable control system or associated software framework, which enables the system to be quickly and easily adapted to specific customer requirements.

The Smart Mobile Manipulator therefore offers an excellent platform for the rapid realisation of a proof of concept in the field of autonomous, flexible process automation, particularly for innovative automation ideas.

Integrated technology

Autonomous platform

A self-navigating mobile robot from OMRON (LD60/90 or LD250) serves as the basis for autonomous mobility. This platform is ideally suited to the approach of moving autonomously in various indoor environments and also provides the necessary safety functionalities. This makes it possible to detect objects and people in the environment and use this information to safely stop the journey or plan alternative routes.

Collaborative articulated robot

For full flexibility and the widest possible range of applications, the system includes a TM5S-M (OMRON) or UR5e (Universal Robots) collaborative robot as an on-deck unit. Thanks to the cobot functionality, automation is no longer a problem, even in a shared working environment with people. The robot is also equipped with a camera system and can be expanded with any gripping systems, tools, sensors and actuators for task fulfilment.

Full flexibility thanks to accessible / expandable control system

Thanks to maximum flexibility with the software framework developed in-house, the full range of functions of the overall system is easily accessible and expandable. This means that it can be adapted or extended as required for the respective applications. In addition to the mobility of the platform and the extensive functionality of the robot arm, other features (optical systems, sensors, actuators) can also be easily used for the tasks to be solved. This enables cost-effective and fast adaptation for various tasks.
