Research project
In the future, video signals will be transmitted over standard HDMI2.1 cables. Longer HDMI cable distances (over 10m) will rely on Active Optical Cables (AOC). In collaboration with the Institute for Microelectronics, Embedded Systems and Sensors (IMES), Tetra Semiconductors Ltd. has successfully integrated patented electronics into a microchip.
The Innosuisse project by Tetra and IMES aimed to develop an HDMI AOC extender that can transmit sufficient power to the receiver for cable lengths up to 30 m without relying on an external power supply or extremely thick copper cables.
